What's the Difference Between Charlie Sheen and Lindsay Lohan?

What's the Difference Between Charlie Sheen and Lindsay Lohan?Pop-Ed: There's a problem with the way we accept Charlie Sheen and condemn Lindsay Lohan.

The actor was found naked and drunk in his Plaza Hotel room early Tuesday morning. After trashing his lavish room and accusing his call girl of theft, police removed the, "emotionally disturbed" actor before he was taken to the hospital.

Sheen was in town with ex-wife Denise Richards and their two daughters for a few days of family fun. After daughters Sam and Lola partied with Eloise at the Plaza, Sheen sought out some grown-up entertainment of his own.

His reps are claiming he had an, "adverse reaction to medication." Riiight. Give it a few days, and Sheen will admit he's still struggling with substance abuse and going to, "seek treatment." He'll thank the public for their prayers and continued support.

And we will continue to support him. We'll tune in Tuesday nights to see Sheen reprise has role as an endearing, heavy-drinking, hooker-loving playboy on, "Two and a Half Men." After he's done raking in 1.8 million an episode for that family-friendly series, Hollywood producers will hire him for another sitcom or maybe even as a leading man on the big screen.
Despite yet another public blunder, no one is questioning whether Sheen's reprehensible personal choices have destroyed his professional career. We're able to see him as an actor, whose on-camera abilities aren't affected by his problems with a certain powdery white substance.

Yet we'll continue to drone on about Lindsay, and how the once-promising starlet sabotaged her career. The troubled actress, like Sheen, has struggled with an addiction to cocaine and had some infamous encounters with the law. She's currently serving a court-mandated stint in rehab until January 2011, and critics are already saying her career might not be waiting for her when she gets out.

Not to be an angry feminist, but does anyone else see the ridiculous double standard here? Sheen is a 45-year old father of five. Lohan's a 24-year old single woman responsible solely for her own well being. Both are actors. Neither are role models. Yet why do we treat the two so differently?

Let's look at Sheen's second chances. Back in 1990, he accidentally shot then-fiancée Kelly Preston in the arm. It only required two stitches. Still, he was playing with a gun and it inadvertently went off? Yeah, we just let that one slide.

In 1995, he admitted frequenting one of Heidi Fleiss' brothels. "I love sex, and I can afford it," he said with typical male bravado. (Can you imagine the backlash if Lohan hired a male prostitute?)

Then in 1998, Sheen entered rehab for substance addiction after a cocaine overdose. No problem! He kept getting work. He split with wife Denise Richards in 2002 after threatening violence against her. And of course there was the incident in December 2009 when he was arrested on charges of domestic violence against his pregnant wife. He went to rehab, took an anger management class, and Poof! We forgave him for those indiscretions and he continued booking job after job.

With the exception of driving under the influence back in 2007, Lohan's reckless behavior hasn't been destructive to anyone other than herself. Her times in jail and court-mandated rehab aren't a result of violent threats to others or endangering the lives of anyone's unborn children. She has a drug problem, and she's getting help. Still, we continue to speculate whether this bad behavior will cost Lohan her career.

So why is Sheen's behavior just to be expected of a handsome playboy? I highly doubt his problems at the Plaza are going to cost him his lucrative contract with CBS. But Lohan's actions are vilified and make her unacceptable to work as an actress. What producer in their right mind would ever hire a woman who isn't pristine enough to be put up on a pedestal? A man with personal problems though? Sure, not a problem.

The discrepancy in how we react to Sheen and Lohan's screw-ups is a sad reminder of the ever-existent sexism still permeating our society. Sheen gets second, third, and fourth career chances. In a fair world, Lohan would be entitled to the exact same. Hear that, CBS? Write up a contract for the girl. It's your turn to promote gender equality!

Director Reveals Title of Third Batman Film (and Which Villain Won't Be Making an Appearance)

Christopher Nolan, writer and director of 'Batman Begins' and 'The Dark Knight,' has revealed the title of the third film in the Batman trilogy: 'The Dark Knight Rises.' And in an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Nolan also discussed which villains won't be getting any screen time in the upcoming film.

"It won't be the Riddler," Nolan said. He has also previously ruled out Mr. Freeze and the Penguin making any appearances. E!Online.com also reports that the director has been meeting with actresses in their 20s and 30s--maybe trying to cast Catwoman?

"We'll use many of the same characters as we have all along, and we'll be introducing some new ones," he said. That might include 'Inception' actor Tom Hardy, who's reportedly in talks to play one of the leads opposite Christian Bale's Batman. No word on whether he'd be playing a good guy or bad guy.

In the interview, Nolan also talked about the fact his film wouldn't be shot in 3D but instead will use HD technology and IMAX cameras.
As for the plot, Nolan will only say that the audience will find the caped crusader on the run from the very people he's saved from evil. Interesting...

Randy and Evi Quaid Released From Custody

Actor Randy Quaid and his wife Evi have been released from a Canadian detention facility after she was declared a Canadian citizen, Canadian border officials said Wednesday.

The Quaids were arrested last Thursday in a shopping area of a posh Vancouver, British Columbia, neighborhood and were jailed on outstanding U.S. warrants related to vandalism charges. The Quaids are wanted in Santa Barbara, California, where they missed a court hearing Monday on felony vandalism charges.

The Canada Border Services Agency confirmed in a statement that Evi Quaid is a citizen of Canada.

The pair had appeared at an immigration hearing in which they requested refugee status based on their belief that they were being persecuted by "Hollywood star whackers," as they put it, and that their lives were in danger.

During the hearing, Evi Quaid repeatedly said her father was a Canadian FBI agent, a claim she explained later by saying her father was a Canadian who moved to the United States and began working for the FBI.

Catherine Sas, the Quaid's new lawyer, said Evi Quaid can live and work in Canada and border officials have withdrawn their proceedings.

As for Randy Quaid, the border services agency would only say that he is no longer in detention and his case will be proceeding through immigration channels.

The couple had been scheduled to appear at a refugee board hearing in Vancouver on Thursday. They were told last week they could be released from detention if they posted a $10,000 bond each, but the pair remained in custody.

Refugee claimants can be detained if officials suspect they won't appear for their hearings.

The Quaids have frequently missed court appearances in the past for a now-resolved U.S. case involving charges they defrauded an innkeeper.

The Quaids are due to appear in a Santa Barbara court next week on felony vandalism charges and their U.S. lawyer has said he expects them to show up.

After a court hearing in Santa Barbara on Tuesday, senior Deputy District Attorney Lee Carter made it clear that the U.S. warrants for the Quaids remain outstanding.

The couple's U.S. lawyer, Robert Sanger, told the court he had been in contact with the Quaids and expected them to be present for the hearing which is set for Nov. 2.

Quaid and his wife were charged after more than $5,000 in damage was found in a guest house of a Montecito, California, home they had previously owned.

Last week, Evi Quaid, 47, begged a Canadian immigration adjudicator to allow the couple to stay in Canada, saying she feared for her 60-year-old husband's life after some of their friends, like actors David Carradine and Heath Ledger, had been "murdered" under mysterious circumstances.

Ledger died in January 2008 from an accidental overdose. Carradine was found dead, hanging from a rope, in a suite at a luxury Bangkok hotel. Neither actor's death was ruled suspicious.

Randy Quaid is best-known for supporting roles in films such as "Independence Day" and "National Lampoon's Vacation."

He has said the couple came to Canada because he was being given an award by a film critics group. He added that they were considering moving to Vancouver, where he planned to jump-start his career.

Lindsay Lohan to Be Granted Bail, Earlier Decision Overturned

Lindsay Lohan's lawyer, Shawn Chapman Holley, filed an appeal late Friday afternoon against Judge Elden Fox's ruling that Lohan be held in jail without bail--and it worked, TMZ is reporting. Lohan could be a free woman in just a few hours.

Lohan was denied bail and taken into custody after breaking probation by failing a pair of drug tests following her release from rehab. Judge Elden Fox reportedly issued the order without hearing arguments from Lohan's lawyers.

Judge Patricia Schnegg, Assistant Supervising Judge for the Los Angeles County Criminal Courts, just reversed Judge Fox's ruling. According to her, his ruling goes against California law, which gives those charged with misdemeanor crimes the right to bail.

The judge set bail at $300,000.
As part of her bail, Lohan will have to submit to certain terms: she''ll have to wear a SCRAM bracelet until her October 22 hearing. She's not allowed to be around any known drug users and must submit to search by law enforcement officials at any time. She is also forbidden to go to bars and nightclubs; specifically, she has to stay out of places where alcohol is the "chief item of sale."

Report: 'Jackass' Star Johnny Knoxville Weds

Actor and stuntman extraordinaire Johnny Knoxville reportedly tied the knot on Friday, a source reveals to UsMagazine.com. The 'Jackass' star married his girlfriend of two years, Naomi Nelson.

No details on location or the ceremony were given.

The pair got engaged earlier this week when Knoxville proposed with a 2.50 carat Edwardian engagement ring from L.A.'s Platt Boutique Jewelry. "Naomi was drawn to this ring because it is unlike anything she had seen--feminine, delicate and detailed," jeweler Larry Platt said. The couple then decided to get married right away.

Knoxville and Nelson welcomed son, Rocko Akira Clapp, in December 2009.
This is Knoxville's second marriage; he and Melanie Clapp divorced in 2008. They have a teen daughter, Madison.

Lindsay Lohan Is Out of Jail

That was fast.

Just before midnght on Friday, Lindsay Lohan was released from jail. The actress, who confessed a week ago on Twitter that she was ready to "face the consequences" for her latest slip-up, spent little more than 13 hours locked up in Lynwood, Calif., according to People.com, after flunking a court-ordered drug test (in which cocaine was reportedly detected) in violation of her probation terms.

Her previous stint behind bars began July 20, and she was freed on Aug. 2, after serving 14 days (shortened from 90); she went straight into rehab but her original three-month stay was also shortened.

Earlier on Friday, Lohan had been denied bail in Beverly Hills Superior Court by Judge Elden Fox, but his ruling was reversed later in the day by Judge Patricia Schnegg after Shawn Chapman Holley, the actress' lawyer, appealed for her client's right to bail.

After the new ruling, Lohan was permitted to post $300,000 bail. Now, she must be fitted within 24 hours with yet another "SCRAM" bracelet (her third) to monitor any alcohol intake.

And the habitual night owl is also ordered to quit her favorite haunts on the club scene: the new ruling requires her to stay out of any establishments where "alcohol is the chief item for sale."
"She's been very cooperative -- always has been," Los Angeles Sheriff's Dept. spokesman Steve Whitmore told People.com. "Let's hope this is the last time."

Regarding any possible career comeback in the works, a source tells TMZ Lohan is aware that her latest legal stumble has "ruined a lot."

Lohan is a free woman until her next hearing on Oct. 22, when she'll return to court for another probation violation hearing.

Michael Lohan: 'God Wanted' This For Lindsay

In a new statement to PopEater, Lindsay Lohan's increasingly pious father has a lot to say about the legal system, his divorce from Dina, and the latest turn of events in his famous (and estranged) daughter's life.

Michael Lohan says:

"As you know, thank God, Lindsay was released from jail tonight. However, what what most don't know is that her release wasn't due to the efforts of any one person. She was released because that's what God wanted.

I truly believe that God wanted to show Lindsay that Shawn Holley, Lou Taylor and Dina (the 'machine,' as Dina put it), failed her.

Lindsay walked into court, convinced by the 'machine' that she would 'skate' on the violation, but as it was, that did not happen. As a matter of fact, as was the case last time, Lindsay was misled."

Lohan added:

"Unfortunately, this is NOT over yet. Lindsay still has to appear before Judge Fox (the same judge Shawn Holley just slapped in the face) on Oct 22. At which time, she will have to face his decision on the violation itself.

God willing, Lindsay has seen the light, and hopefully, she will listen to her heart and God, rather than the 'machine.' Hopefully, she will go into a rehab NOW, to keep her freedom, to show the judge that she is serious and to make the decision that will truly change her life for the better.

Dina and I caused this (by divorcing) and it's our job to fix it. I pray that Dina and I can come to terms and do just that."

Dina Lohan, Lindsay's mom, has issued no public comment since her 24-year-old daughter was jailed and released on bail yesterday.

Kristen Bell Says She'd Finance 'Veronica Mars' Movie

Some dreams die hard. Kristen Bell opened up at this week's L.A. premiere for her new feature 'You Again,' (co-starring Sigourney Weaver, Jamie Lee Curtis and Betty White) all about the 2004-'07 television role that made her a star -- and just how badly she wants to revive her beloved Veronica Mars character on the big screen.

While she insists that she "absolutely would" pony up the funds to get the project rolling, she says her hands are tied because Warner Bros. studio owns the rights to the UPN teen detective series (which moved to The CW for its last season).

"My duty, because I wanted this movie made from the minute our show got canceled, is to (A) do it before I'm 40, and (B) to prove to Warner Bros. that there is an audience," she told The Hollywood Reporter.
Bell, 30, pointed out the project's unique foundation of support, saying, "You already have 3 million who watched it every week -- hardcore fans that will see it -- you can only build from there." (Devoted viewers famously mailed thousands of Mars Bars to The CW offices in a failed effort to persuade the network not to cancel 'Veronica Mars.')

Is the actress upset that she can't assert some creative control and wield her new Hollywood clout on the movie's behalf? "It's a business and the sad truth is that...they're not going to relinquish the rights to something and let us do it," Bell said. "We really have to do it with them because they own it."

As for a web series to keep the character alive, she hedged: "I would be down with doing a web series....I don't speak for anyone else but myself, but I think that they want it grand, because it is deserving of being on the big screen. I think that maybe our creators would settle for that but I think that we all really want to push for the movie if it can happen."

The critically acclaimed series -- about an adolescent private investigator following in her crime-solving father's footsteps -- was created by Rob Thomas, who reportedly penned a movie script to be produced by Joel Silver, but Warner Bros. refused to greenlight the film. Earlier this year, Thomas claimed his pet project wasn't dead, but in July, he admitted the studio wasn't budging and told the New York Post, "This is the least optimistic I've felt in a while" about a 'Veronica Mars' movie ever getting made.

Matt LeBlanc Caught in Foul-Mouthed 'Friends' Rant

Matt LeBlancMatt LeBlanc is not joking around when he says he wants to put his 'Friends' past behind him. On Tuesday evening, a UK Mirror reporter called him Joey, the character he played on the hit TV series, and LeBlanc went crazy.

The incident started when the 43-year-old actor clumsily knocked into the reporter's table, sending glasses flying. "You all right, Joey? How YOU do-in?" the reporter joked. But LeBlanc wasn't laughing and allegedly raged, "I'm not Joey. Don't you dare call me Joey. The papers say I'm finished, so don't call me f**king Joey. I want to leave that all behind. I'm moving on."
And he didn't stop there. "I'm not Joey. For the last time. I'm not f**king Joey. It's Matt. Matt LeBlanc. Joey's in the past. I'm trying to do something new," he yelled.

In a recent interview, LeBlanc insisted he didn't mind still being linked with his famous 'Friends' alter-ego, saying, "If people really believe me as that character, I have done my job. I don't look on it as a negative thing. I take it as a compliment."

$#*! William Shatner Told Us: George Takei 'Obsessed' and New Album in the Works

The tweets beget the book which beget the television show. Tonight, CBS premieres '$#*! My Dad Says,' starring the legendary William Shatner as the Dad. The quirky actor engaged in a spit-fire convo with PopEater, rattling off sometimes-wacky answers to questions about the new show, 'Star Trek' fanatics (they're not going to be happy) and the best part ... his plans for a new album.

Tell me about the show, and may I say, you're genius in it.
It's very funny and the cast is fabulous. And yes, I am a genius in it! The most exciting part of the show are the writers and the producers. They are so good -- led by Max Mutchnick and David Kohan.
Oh the guys from 'Will & Grace.'
Exactly. It's such a joy to know that they have a real sense of what they're doing. It is one of the great occasions in my life to be working with such talented people all the way round. You hear actors say that out of lip service, but in this case this actor really means it.

You play, what, a curmudgeon, an asshole, a very truthful guy?
A curmudgeonly asshole.

Can you relate to that?
I don't know any assholes and the word curmudgeon is foreign to me. I don't know, he's just funny. I'm actually the opposite of a curmudgeon. But what I have to do is protect myself in public from people who want something because they see in the celebrity something that could be useful to them. The actors who are popular always have to be on guard because somebody's always wanting something, so that may appear to be unfriendly or curmudgeonly but the fact is we're not.

Do you get tired of it?
You get used to it and it just becomes part of your life.

Are you distrustful of people?
Well, that's a fact of life. A lot of people are after a lot of things. If you can live with that and use it and transform it then you're living your life.

The last few years, your career has taken a completely new turn.
I don't know. I've always been busy but it's all in the perception. If that's what you perceive, then that's the way it is.

Yes, it's always been busy, I just meant suddenly you're Mr. Shatner "funny guy," and 20 years ago I don't think people would have thought of you like that.
Probably not. What would they have thought of 20 years ago?

I think they would have thought of Captain Kirk.
Yeah, maybe. I suppose they would have.

Why do you think George Takei hates you so much?
If you were able to climb into George Takei's mind, you'd be doing a lot better than I. I have no idea. In my opinion the man's obsessed.

Speaking of obsessions. Do you get the obsession of 'Star Trek' fans?
I don't understand it completely, but I accept it without any question.

Does it creep you out?
Not anymore. We're adaptable animals.

Do you understand when people talk about a Shatnerian way of talking?
I don't think that's absolutely true.

You don't think it's true?
Oh, I'm sure it's true, but I don't quite recognize it. I don't hear myself do it because I don't do that.

How old are you?
I'm 25.

Ever get tired on set? It's a lot of work.
They told me it wasn't going to be but it turns out it is. Twelve hours on my feet, expending that kind of energy.

I'd be exhausted.
That's the difference between you and me.

Do you have a little shloof (Yiddish for nap) on set?
[Laughs] There's no time for shloofs.

Had you read the tweets or book before you were cast?
The whole gestalt? Which is better than shloof. I hadn't heard of it until it was presented to me.

Have you met the guy you're playing?

Yep.

Do you like him?

I don't know him. You smile and you put your hand out. You don't know whether he's reaching for a dollar or being a friend.

Wow!
Wait a minute. That "wow" scares me. There's an explanation for that wow. He sticks his hand out and you shake it, you don't know if he's nice or not. I'm sure he's very nice because his son, Justin, works as a writer and he's terrific and a lovely guy.

Do you have plans for another album?
I do.

Have you picked the songs? Is there a theme?
I have.

Want to tell me about it?
No.

Why?
Because it's such a good idea. I don't want anybody to steal it until I finish it. I just heard today that we have some time close to Thanksgiving, so at the end of November I should have all the tracks down.

PopEater's 'Nominate Justin Timberlake for an Oscar' Campaign

Let's Get Justin Timberlake an Oscar

Critics are raving about David Fincher's 'The Social Network.' Word on the street is that the combination of Fincher's stellar direction, Aaron Sorkin's powerhouse script and epic performances by Jesse Eisenberg, Andrew Garfield and, most importantly, Justin Timberlake make it a lock for a Best Picture nomination at the Academy Awards. No, that wasn't a typo. This is the performance of Timberlake's brief career as an actor, and it couldn't have come with a more game-changing movie.

As Napster co-founder Sean Parker, Timberlake is Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg's puppeteer and mentor. JT steps up his game in 'Network,' injecting a cool and sinister confidence into his portrayal of Parker. And as longtime fans of the singer-songwriter-producer, we couldn't pass up the opportunity to help turn JT into an even bigger superstar. We simply couldn't. We knew he had the pop music chops, but before 'Network,' he'd never really been able to translate his charisma into cinematic gold. Now, Timberlake is primed for major Hollywood stardom, and with that in mind, we officially launch our very own Facebook campaign to nominate Justin Timberlake for an Oscar this year. But we need a little help reminding the Academy that JT is the hidden gem in the best movie of the year. Join our group now and spread the word. Let's make it happen!

Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore Attend Clinton Global Intiative Amid Infidelity Rumors

Ashton and DemiPlagued by rumors that their marriage is in trouble, Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore spoke together at the Clinton Global Initiative on Thursday.

Kutcher and Moore, who will be married five years this Friday, spoke of their "Real Men" campaign against sex slavery, according to PEOPLE.

They also discussed their DNA foundation -- standing for Demi and Ashton -- which hopes to "create a trafficking-free Internet."

At the event, the actor was passionate about what can be done to stop the practice. "People can get off their ass and start acting appropriately," he told reporters.

Meanwhile, Star magazine's latest cover story focuses on the couple -- claiming to have text messages sent between Kutcher and 21-year-old Brittney Jones.
"When's the next time you're gonna have an empty house?" Brittney allegedly wrote to Ashton.

"Not sure," he replied. "Maybe the end of the month." He then added, "I'm w/ my daughter."

"Ashton was really paranoid," Brittney told Star about the texts.

Last week, Star was the first to report the affair, claiming that Jones and Kutcher had sex on a couch while Demi was filming 'LOL: Laughing Out Loud,' her upcoming feature with Miley Cyrus.

Ashton and Demi married in 2005. It was the first marriage for Kutcher and the third for Moore, who previously wed Bruce Willis -- with whom she has three children -- and Freddie Moore. The pair met and began dating in 2003.

Rocker Nancy Wilson Files for Divorce From Director Cameron Crowe

After 22 years of marriage, rocker Nancy Wilson and director Cameron Crowe are calling it quits, PEOPLE reports.

Wilson, a singer from the rock duo Heart, filed divorce papers in Los Angeles Superior Court on Thursday. She cites irreconcilable differences and lists June 15, 2008 as the date of their separation.

Crowe, writer/director of 'Fast Times at Ridgemont High,' 'Almost Famous' and 'Jerry Maguire,' and Wilson married on July 23, 1986. They have 10-year-old twin boys named William and Curtis. In the divorce papers, Wilson seeks joint physical and legal custody of their children and also requests spousal support.
Wilson, who composed and produced music for several of her husband's films, has also asked that her legal name be restored to Nancy Lamoureaux Wilson.

Crowe is reportedly working on an untitled Pearl Jam documentary, MTV.com reports, and Wilson will continue to perform with her band Heart, alongside sister, Ann Wilson.
